IFA meetings to elect a new Munster Regional Chairman will take place in March.

IFA National Returning Officer Jer Bergin has announced that IFA County Executive Meetings to elect a new Munster Chairman will begin early in March.

Two candidates will contest the election: John Coughlan, Buttevant, North Cork and John O’Brien, Barryroe, Cork Central.

The new Munster Chairman will be elected by the nine county executives in the Munster region.

All members of the Munster County Executives are entitled to vote by secret ballot at meetings taking place between March 8 and March 23.

The votes will be counted at the national count in Dublin in mid-April.

However, there is still no update on the Connacht situation. Last week all five counties in Connacht put forward a candidate for the post of Connacht Regional Chairman, after it had been deemed that none of the four original candidates had met the necessary criteria.

But, with all five counties backing their own man it meant that none of the five candidates could get the necessary backing of another county. It now stands that, again, all the candidates have failed to meet the necessary criteria.

Tom Turley has been nominated by Galway, John O’Beirne by Roscommon, Padraic Joyce by Mayo, Eddie Davitt by Sligo and Dessie McHugh by Letrim.
