IFA National Livestock Committee Chairman Henry Burns has been elected Chairman of the new EU Commission Civil Dialogue Group on Animal Products at a meeting in Brussels.

The IFA livestock leader was previously Chairman of the EU Commission Advisory Group on Beefmeat since 2013, and has now been elected as the new Chairman of the broader group on Animal Products covering beef, sheep and other animal products.

He said the new EU Commission Civil Dialogue Groups involves Europe wide farmer representatives from COPA-COGECA, industry and consumer representatives as well as EU Commission officials.

He said the new Groups have a vital role to play in developing and shaping EU policy across all of the key animal products sectors and keeping the Commission well informed of the views of farmers and the wider industry.
