John Deere is searching for the UK and Ireland’s ‘Chopping Pro‘.

To enter, you take a selfie – ideally in front of a self-propelled forage harvester (presumably a John Deere). You then upload the picture onto a web-based platform set up by John Deere.

Once the picture is online, ask friends and colleagues to share it via social media.

It’s not just about the glory; there are some prizes to be had, including a professional photo shoot – leading to signs and billboards (with your picture) being placed close to where you live.

John Deere has set up a special website for this competition. It is available here. Whoever gets the most ‘likes’ becomes the so-called ‘Chopping Pro’. The deadline for applications is looming on the horizon; it closes on August 31. John Deere is urging would-be participants not to wait – and to apply as soon as possible.

Other John Deere news

There has been recent harvester news from John Deere – relating to combines rather than self-propelled foragers.

The machinery giant unveiled its new S700 Series combines to the press in the UK and Ireland at an event in England on August 14.

Four new S700 Series combines will be available for 2018 – the S770, S780, S785 and S790 – featuring a new console and control terminal, camera-based grain quality management system and the option of an updated ‘draper’ header.

S700 Series combines feature the new CommandPRO joystick, which has a design shared with the new 6230R and 6250R tractors, and the GSD 4600 touch-screen display.

John Deere UK & Ireland Managing Director Jonathan Henry commented: “One of the major issues surrounding harvesting is the lack of skilled operators, so supporting decisions with technology is going to become increasingly important.”

The official list prices (which may be significantly higher than actual, on-the-ground purchase prices) are not cheap; the S790 lists at €441,279. A 10.66m-wide 735D draper header (European-spec) lists at €77,582. Combine Advisor (ICA2) adds a further €13,990.
