GDT index down 1.1% after latest trading event

The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) index has decreased after the latest trading event this week.

The index has decreased by 1.1%, reflecting an average price for product sold during the trading event of €3,349/t.

The index figure now stands at 1,163, down from 1,177 at the last trading event.

In today's event, a total of 42,444t of product was sold, and 155 bidders took part.

126 winning bidders emerged across 18 bidding rounds, which lasted a total of two hours and 56 minutes.

In the graphic below the shaded dials indicate the proportion of each product group sold versus total quantity sold during the previous 12 months, with a three-month lag.

Figures within the dials represent the percentage change in GDT price index and the weighted average price.

Looking at the individual product sub-indices, the index for cheddar is up significantly by 16.5%, reflecting an average price of €3,528/t.

Butter declined by 5.7% to €4,121/t average price, while mozzarella was down by 6% to €3,456/t.

Lactose was down by 4.3% to a price of €1,553/t, while anhydrous milk fat was down 3% to €4,968/t.
