Gardaí in Co. Tipperary have questioned a teenager after a woman in her 80s was seriously injured after being struck by a tractor in a hit-and-run incident in the county.

The elderly woman, who was a pedestrian, was involved in the collision at Sean Kelly Square, Carrick On Suir around 3:30p.m on Friday afternoon (March 1).

The tractor driver failed to remain at the scene.

The woman was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford, where she is currently being treated for serious injuries.

It is understood that the 17-year-old boy presented himself to a garda station following the incident.

The teenager left the station after questioning and officers will now prepare a file on the matter for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In a statement a garda spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told Agriland: “A male juvenile is assisting gardaí with their enquiries. Investigations are ongoing at this time.”

“A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in due course,” they added.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or may have any relevant information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Those with camera footage (including dash cam) of the location at the time are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
