Gardaí are investigating after a woman in her 80s was seriously injured after being struck by a tractor in a hit-and-run incident in Co. Tipperary.

The elderly woman, who was a pedestrian, was involved in the collision at Sean Kelly Square, Carrick On Suir around 3:30p.m on Friday afternoon (March 1).

The tractor driver failed to remain at the scene.

The woman was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford, where she is currently being treated for serious injuries.

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or may have any relevant information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Those with camera footage (including dash cam) of the location at the time are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

In other news, the theft of a hedge cutter in Co. Offaly is currently being investigated by gardaí in the county.

The theft occurred overnight on Wednesday, February 28 and in the early hours of Thursday, February 29.

A statement from An Garda Síochána confirmed that Tullamore gardaí are investigating the stolen Ghedini hedge cutter, which was taken from the Walsh Island area.

Gardaí are urging those with any sightings or information on the stolen hedge cutter to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057-9327600.

The annual hedge cutting season has come to a close on Friday to coincide with the arrival of the nesting and breeding season.

Under the Wildlife Act, the cutting, grubbing, burning or other destruction of “vegetation growing in any hedge or ditch” is illegal between March 1 and August 31.
