A Co. Galway man who was paralysed from the chest down following a farm accident will be helped to sea swim with greater ease, on ‘Big Life Fix’ season two, which will air next Wednesday (March 6) at 9:35p.m on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.

David Tarpey from Oranmore will feature in the programme, which sees Ireland’s leading inventors create ingenious solutions to everyday problems for extraordinary people.

Big Life Fix challenges a group of leading designers, engineers, computer programmers and technology experts to create inventions that will attempt to transform people’s lives.

Using cutting edge science and technology, the team work together to build practical solutions for those who need their help. 

The Big Life Fix team harnesses the power of science to create tailor-made inventions for individuals and families.

Between them, they can build everything, from space satellites to life saving medical devices and military hardware.

The top level team team includes: rocket scientist David McKeown at UCD; designer and inventor Trevor Vaugh at Maynooth University; software engineer, Niamh Stockil at Microsoft; electronic engineer, Shane Phelan at Logitech; robotics expert, Peter Redmond at Mechatrons and designer, Lorna Ross at VHI.

The team will take on eight projects in total across the series. Among the other participants are Theresa O’Rourke who suffers from chronic pain, and three-year-old (at the time of filming) Evie Purdy who is non-verbal.

Made with the support of Science Foundation Ireland, this series marries real problems and human drama with science, proving that with a little bit of ingenuity, anything is possible.
