Payments made under the Fuel Income Support Scheme now stand at €24.1 million, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has said.

The latest data shows that the payments, which began in July, have now been issued to 30,393 applicants.

Last week, an additional €388,513 was paid out under the scheme.

The department previously stated that it is expected that the total final payments under this scheme will be approximately €27 million.

However, when the scheme was unveiled by government it was allocated a budget of €85 million.

Multiple calls have been made from farm organisations for the remaining fuel scheme budget of around €60 million to stay within agriculture sector.

A spokesperson for DAFM told Agriland that payments under the Fuel Income Support Scheme have been "made at the rate indicated in the scheme" terms and conditions and "in line with the sanction received from the Department of Public Expenditure".

They added: "The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine is presently engaging with the Department of Public Expenditure on matters relating to Budget 2027 as is normal for this time of the year.

"Any decisions with regard to funding will be considered as part of this process".

Scheme payments

Meanwhile, an additional €157,062 was paid out last week under the 2025 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and Complimentary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS).

A total of €845.31 million has been issued to 118,913 farmers under these measures.

€38.3 million of that amount is for the 2025 Complementary Income Support for Young Farmers, along with €3.1 million for the 2025 National Reserve.

A further €1.7 million was issued to the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Schemes (TAMS 3) bringing the total payments to €182.8 million.
