The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has published the terms and conditions of its Farm Safety grant, which will allow farmers claim up to 40% of the implementation cost of farm safety measures.

The Farm Safety Scheme will close on January 9, 2015, with the budget divided into two tranches.

The cut off date for the first tranche will be Friday, November 28 (2014) and the second tranche will open on Monday, December 1 (2014).

All applications not approved in the first tranche will be carried over into the second tranche. Similarly, any unused budget from the first tranche will transfer for allocation under the second tranche. All applicants are advised to submit their applications as early as possible. Applicants are reminded that all work must be completed and a payment claim lodged with the Department by August 31, 2015.

Some highlights of the scheme include:

  • Grant aid will not be paid before written approval is given to the farmer;
  • Priority will be given to young farmers in accordance with the details set out in the marking sheet;
  • Priority shall be given to applicants with no prior TAMS 1 approval; and,
  • Marks shall be awarded for early correct applications received which do not require further correspondence from the Department.
