Farmers Robert and Ian Hall will donate the money raised from the sale of an incalf Pedigree Aberdeen Angus cow to Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care.

The starting price for the cow sold on Wednesday, March 20 at Ballyjamesduff Mart was €1,500, and was sold for €1,990 to a farmer in Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan.

The cow, named Lady Hoshi X447 is incalf to Kerins Ultra Tarbh, due at the end of the month.

Robert told Agriland that there was a “good turnout” for the sale and that donations are being made outside of the auction to the charity.

Robert said that the charity does “so much” for the local community, including raising money for vulnerable families, and it was his way of giving back.

Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care uses its resources for many different needs, including supplying equipment.

It offers support systems to help patients lives actively and to immediately offer finance to meet demands of families.

Apart from annual fundraising events, the charity receives money through individuals and community groups.

“I’ve even seen before, just a family stuck for oil and the charity provided money to help in the long run,” Robert said.

Robert will also be collecting proceeds for the charity in shops and areas throughout Cavan and Monaghan for the next month, up until April 10.

He said that anyone who wants to donate can get in touch with him or keep an eye out.
