A man has been hospitalised after an incident involving livestock at Ballinamore Agricultural Show, Agriland understands.

The agricultural show took place in Co. Leitrim today (Tuesday, August 11).

Speaking to Agriland this evening, a spokesperson for the show confirmed that the air ambulance had arrived at the scene.

The spokesperson also confirmed to Agriland that the show's safety officer received a report on the incident and that the Civil Defence were also on site at the event.

The spokesperson indicated that the man was taken to hospital.

According to the agricultural show spokesperson a bovine animal was involved in the incident.

It is understood that the man suffered a leg injury but it is not believed to be life threatening.

Safety hazards on farms

Separately, last month, as part of Farm Safety Week, farmers were asked to review potential safety hazards on their holdings.

Farm Safety Week is one of the farming sector’s largest safety awareness campaigns and is backed by more than 500 partner organisations across the UK and Ireland.

The campaign is led by the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) and is supported by the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA).

The focus of Farm Safety Week this year was people, because every incident changes a life and many farming families are living with life-changing impacts of serious injuries.
