Those attending the National Ploughing Championships this week can expect warm and dry weather for the three days, according to Met Éireann.
Ploughing 2024 gets underway tomorrow (Tuesday, September 17) and runs for three days until Thursday (September 19), with the national forecaster predicting that rain will largely stay away.
The event takes place at Ratheniska, Co. Laois, for the third successive year.
For today (Monday, September 16), any mist or fog patches will clear quickly this morning to leave a dry day with sunny spells. It will become a little cloudier further west, with perhaps the odd spot of drizzle at times along the west coast.
Highest temperatures today should be 17° to 21° in mostly light southeast to south breezes.
Tonight will be largely dry with clear spells. It will still be somewhat cloudier in parts of the west and northwest, with a little drizzle. Lowest temperatures will range from 6° or 7° in the southeast to 13° or 14° in the northwest with light southerly or variable breezes.
Tomorrow will be dry with improving sunshine. Highest temperatures are expected to be 17° to 22°. Light to moderate east to southeast winds will mean that it will be coolest in the east and warmest in the midlands and west.
Tomorrow night will be dry with clear spells. Some mist may form near dawn but will clear quickly with the sunrise. Lowest temperatures should be 7° to 11° with light easterly winds.
Wednesday (September 18), Thursday, and Friday (and September 20) will all be dry, with sunny spells and light easterly winds predominating, and temperatures ranging between 17° and 21°, coolest along east-facing coasts.
Nighttime temperatures for the rest of the week will be down to 7° to 11° degrees with clear spells and light breezes, allowing a little mist or fog around dawn.
According to Met Éireann, current indications suggest that there will be a greater possibility of showers next weekend, with temperatures dropping back to the mid to high teens.
