The value of Irish exports for food and live animals fell by 8% or €115 million in June 2024, to almost €1.3 billion, compared to the same month in 2023, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The data published today (Thursday, August 15) shows that meat and meat preparation exports decreased by €27 million from the 12 months to June 2024, to €409 million.
Exports of dairy products and birds’ eggs decreased to €396 million in June 2024 from €435 million in June 2023.
The value of cereal and cereal preparation exports decreased by €4 million compared to the year before, to €63 million.
Exports of feeding stuff for animals, excluding unmilled cereals decreased by €5 million to €42 million in the year to June 2024.
The products which accounted for the largest share of exports in June 2024 were food and live animals at €313 million, along with machinery and transport equipment at €270 million.
Exports of electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances grew by €352 million or 56% to €985 million in June 2024.
CSO imports
Ireland imported €815 million worth of food and live animals in June 2024, compared to €870 million for the same period last year, according to the CSO.
Imports of cereals and cereal preparations increased from €815 million in the period of January to June 2023 to €886 million for the first six months of this year.
Meanwhile, imports of feeding stuff for animals decreased from €774 million to €623 million in the first six months of 2023 compared to 2024.
Goods imports in general decreased by 8% from January to June 2024 compared with the same period in 2023.
CSO statistician in the international trade in goods division, Ciarán Counihan said: “In June 2024, Ireland’s unadjusted exports of goods dropped by €1.8 billion to €16.6 billion compared with June 2023.
“When seasonally adjusted, exports of goods fell by €330 million when compared with May 2024.
“The unadjusted imports for June 2024 were valued at €11.8 billion, down almost €700 million on June 2023. Seasonally adjusted imports were €11.6 billion in June 2024.”
