Station Road Mart in Cootehill, Co. Cavan has ceased operations, its management has said.

A statement from the management said: “Jimmy O’Reilly and Carmel O’Reilly, the directors of Station Road Mart Ltd, wish to announce that as of and from January 15 [last Friday] the company will not be operating the mart premises at Stations Road, Cootehill, Co. Cavan.

“The directors of Station Road Mart Ltd wish to express their profound gratitude to all their loyal customers, staff and suppliers. The directors further wish to state that Station Road Mart Ltd is and always has been solvent.”

Sheep theft in Cavan

In other news related to Co. Cavan, 17 sheep were stolen from two farms in the county over two days this week.

Gardaí confirmed that officers in Belturbet are investigating the theft of the sheep, which occurred on two separate farms in the vicinity of the village of Redhills, close to the border with Northern Ireland.

The incidents occurred between midday on Wednesday (January 13) and 9:00am on Thursday (January 14).

The two neighbouring farms each had sheep stolen. One farmer had 14 sheep stolen, while the other had three sheep stolen.

An investigation continues, and Gardaí are asking anyone with information, or who might be in a position to assist in the investigation, to contact Belturbet Garda Station.
