The next few days will be mainly cold and wet, with frequent rain (turning to sleet or snow in places) and also breezy, gusty conditions.

Today (Friday, January 29) will be mostly cloudy in Leinster and Ulster with patchy rain or drizzle. It will brighten up in Munster and Connacht. This evening, heavy rain will develop in the southwest and spread northeastwards.

Highest temperatures today should be 4° to 7° in Ulster and 8° to 11° elsewhere, with moderate to fresh westerly breezes easing.

Tonight will be windy, with persistent or heavy rain moving northwards over much of the country, reaching south Ulster by dawn. Easterly winds will increase fresh to strong and gusty. Lowest temperatures will be 4° to 7°, but colder over Ulster with lows of 0° to 3°.

Tomorrow morning (Saturday, January 30) will be cold and windy. It will be mainly dry in Ulster. However, rain will continue elsewhere, falling as sleet or snow at times, especially in Leinster. It will gradually clear southwards through the afternoon and early evening. Highest temperatures should be around 3° to 6° with fresh, gusty easterly winds.

Saturday night will be cold and mainly dry with clear spells and a sharp frost, as temperatures fall to between -1° and +2°. Rain and sleet will develop in the west overnight.

On Sunday morning (January 31), rain and sleet will spread eastwards across the country, falling as snow in places, especially over the northern half of the country. The rain and sleet will continue for the rest of the day and throughout Sunday night, with snow possible in Ulster.

Highest daytime temperatures on Sunday will be 1° to 4° for most areas and reaching 6° or 7° in Munster with moderate to fresh easterly winds. They will fall to between 0° and 6° on Sunday night, coldest in Ulster.

Monday (February 1) will be cold and mostly cloudy with further falls of rain and sleet, with snow possible in northern areas. Highest afternoon temperatures are expected to be 2° to 7°, coldest in Ulster with moderate southeast winds, becoming southerly and freshening.

A band of rain will spread northeastwards throughout the evening and night, and will clear overnight with showers following. Lowest temperatures should be 3° to 7°, with moderate to fresh southeast winds.

Tuesday (February 2) will be mild and breezy with showers or longer spells of rain. Highest temperatures will be 8° to 10° with fresh southerly winds.

Wednesday (February 3) and Thursday (February 4) will continue unsettled and breezy with further showers or longer spells of rain. Highest temperatures those days will be around 7° to 9°.
