It is expected to be quite cold this weekend with some scattered showers turning wintry at times, according to Met Eireann.
Widespread frost is forecast this morning, Friday, and it is likely to be slow to clear.
It is set to remain cold for the day with highest temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees, in moderate easterly winds.
While the day will remain generally dry there will be occasional scattered showers, particularly in eastern coastal areas, with the potential for these to turn wintry on higher ground.
At the moment well and moderately drained soils are trafficable at present and are expected to remain so over the coming days, while some improvements may be seen in soils that are saturated or waterlogged in places, according to Met Eireann.
Saturday
Tomorrow, Saturday, is expected to a cold day with blustery northeasterly winds and highest temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees.
It is set to be dry in most places, but showers may develop along eastern and southern coastal areas, with hail expected in many of these showers.
It is forecast to be cold and frosty overnight, with any showers along the east and south coast expected to turn wintry as temperatures drop to below freezing.
Sunday
Sunday is set to be another cold day with easterly winds, most places are likely to be dry but coastal showers may still occur in the east and south, as temperatures range from 4 to 6 degrees.
Outlook
Early indications suggest that it will remain cold but temperatures will rise slightly on both Monday and Tuesday.
Some showers are set to affect south-Munster coastal areas, but most of the country will remain dry, according to Met Eireann.
It is expected to get milder as we move into Wednesday and Thursday as temperatures reach up to 12 degrees in southerly winds, as the weather is forecast to remain relatively dry.
