A January-2026-born pedigree Suffolk ewe lamb bred on a farm in Co. Cavan recently sold for an impressive £4,000.
The lamb was sold via an online timed auction in the third annual Sheep Breeders Choice summer selection sale.
The timed auction was run by MartEye from Saturday, July 4, to Monday, July 6.
Included in the sale was progeny from the following four flocks:
The sale was run using British pounds as the chosen currency, and the exchange rate during the sale remained at €1 = £0.86.
The sale saw 26 "high genetic merit" sheep with ram lambs, ewe lambs and shearling gimmers on offer.
Speaking to Agriland after the sale, James Dunne, of Kilduff pedigree livestock, described the trade as "tremendous" and added that the online aspect "has expanded opportunities from a buyer's perspective".
Agriland also spoke to Philip Crowe, owner of the Powerful flock, who was very happy with the sale.
He noted that bids from the UK, France and even Italy, for the progeny on offer in the sale indicated the level of demand and quality on show.
The joint top price for a ram lamb on the day went to Powerful Kangaroo ET, a Blue Texel born on February 1, who sold for £1,600. The lamb is sired by Hurricane Harley Davidson and his dam is Gerrard Masson B944463115.
Powerful Kangaroo ET is described as having "exceptional tight skin with tremendous lenght of body and extreme hard muscling".
Ernevalley Endgame also fetched £1,600. He is a Suffolk lamb born on January 1. He is sired by Richhill Dominator and his dam is Ballynacannon KKW2302068.

Other rams sold online include Powerful Kickass and Powerful Krankshaft for £1,000 and £1,100 respectively. Both are Blue Texel ram lambs.
It was the ewe lambs category that achieved the top price of the online sale with Kilduff Electra securing the top price of £4,000.
This Suffolk ewe lamb was born on Feburary 1 and is sired by Cherrylea Dark Destroyer. Her dam is Kilduff JZS2301264.
Kilduff Electra is described as having "exceptional size, style" and being "as big as a gimmer".
Dunne added that this was a sign of the demand for modern-type Suffolks both here and in the UK.
Other notable sales included £2,900 paid for Kilduff Elegance, another Suffolk ewe lamb sired by Cherrylea Dark Destroyer.
Kilduff Ebony sold for £1,400, by the same sire. Kilduff Electic and Kilduff Eternity both fetched £1,200.
The shearling gimmer trade saw a top price of £1,850 for Ernevalley Daffodil, a Suffolk born January 3, 2025 and sired by Limestone Rizzler, and born to dam Craigdoo PNZ2200791.
