The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has now approved around 65% of applications made under tranche 1 of the new Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS 3).

The latest data published today (Monday, February 26) by the department shows that an additional 424 applications were given the green light in the week up to last Friday (February 23).

This means that 5,278 out of 8,203 applications lodged with DAFM have now been approved.

The department said that 2,246 applications are currently deemed to be “in progress”, 476 were rejected and 203 have been withdrawn.

Over 60% of the approvals granted last week (256) related to the Animal Welfare Nutrient Storage Scheme, which is also the TAMS measure with the highest number of applications (2,494).

1,342 applications for the measure have now been approved, 963 are still being considered by the department, 118 were rejected and 71 have been withdrawn.

There were 18 further approvals under the Women Farmer Capital Investment Scheme (WFCIS), which has among the lowest number of approvals.

89 out of 259 applications for the scheme have been approved, 150 are “in progress”, 13 were rejected and 7 were withdrawn.

There were no additional applications approved under the Low Emission Slurry Spreading (LESS) measure. Almost 97% (533) of the 551 applications have been approved to date.

TAMS

Last week, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue announced that the priority approval mechanism for applications to tranche 2 of TAMS is now open.

This mechanism is for farmers who need to commence grant-aided works urgently.

Farmer who find themselves in that position are advised to contact their local DAFM office so their application can be assessed.

The minister said that TAMS tranche 2 had seen 9,110 application as of the closing date of January 19.

He reiterated that all eligible applications will be approved under tranche 2.

It was previously announced that tranche 3 of the scheme will close for applications on Friday, April 12, 2024.
