A new series celebrating Ireland’s women in agriculture will launch next week. Agriland’s Women in Ag series is proudly supported by FBD.
The 'Groundbreakers' series will highlight the important role of women in farming, showcasing a number of diverse experiences.
This is especially important as 2026 has been declared the International Year of the Woman Farmer by the United Nations.
Over the course of the coming weeks, Agriland will travel across the country speaking to inspiring women in the sector.
We will broadcast and publish a series of videos, podcasts and articles that will feature the realities of modern farming, the challenges women face in the sector, and the successes they have achieved.
The series will examine innovation and diversification, generational renewal, and the evolving identity of Irish farming.
A number of female-run farms will feature in the 'Groundbreakers' series.
The series will begin on Monday (June 8) on the farm of Mona O'Donoghue Concannon, who runs a dairy, beef and suckler farm with her husband, brother and daughter near Tuam, Co. Galway.
We will also travel to Coppenagh House Farm in Tullow, Co. Carlow, where Ciara Stanley is running a beef enterprise and farm shop alongside her husband Robert.
Anne Marie Feighery, founder of Feighery's Farm Beetroot Juice, which is made using beetroot grown on the family farm near Kilcormac, Co. Offaly, will feature.
We will interview Carina Roseingrave, who manages a mixed enterprise, Burren View Farm, at the foothills of the Burren in Crusheen, Co. Clare and is Ireland's ambassador for International Year of the Woman Farmer.
Miriam and Rachel Hastings, sisters farming on the family sheep and suckler enterprise in Ballyforan on the Galway/Roscommon border, will also feature.
Co. Cavan's Sophie Bell will discuss life as a third-generation farmer running a contract-rearing heifer enterprise.
The series will end in Co. Meath with Laura Hannon, who runs a dairy farm with her father in Kiltale, Co. Meath.
Emer O’Byrne, national head of branch strategy and sales performance at FBD, commented: "FBD Insurance is proud to support the women in ag series, celebrating the vital role of women in agriculture.
"Female farmers are at the heart of Ireland’s rural communities, and this initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting farm families across the country."
Editor of Agriland, Stella Meehan added: "Women are as vital to agriculture now as they have always been.
"Agriland is proud to shine a light on some of those hard-working and determined women clearing a path for themselves in an industry that has traditionally been male-dominated.
"We are delighted to have the support of FBD on this project and hope that many more girls and young women find inspiration and role models in the stories they watch, listen to or read on Agriland over the coming weeks."
