A wealth of vintage in the south-east this weekend
There will be two promising vintage shows taking place this Sunday, July 23, in the south-east of the country.
Silage Exhibition 2017
‘Silage Exhibition 2017’ will be kicking into gear from 12:00pm at Lismore Castle Farm, Lismore, Co. Waterford, with a series of impressive events scheduled for the day.
Organised by the Melleray Vintage Club, the main events will include: vintage silage cutting; a display of vintage machinery including stationary engines, tractors and cars; the Ford centenary celebrations; an artisan food village; various trade stalls; and family entertainment.
All participants are required to have insurance and all guards and covers (including PTO guards) must be properly in place. The organisers have announced that exhibits and harvesters are welcome to arrive from Saturday morning to set up.
In addition, it is advertised that Michael Collins’ car “Sliabh na mBan” will be on show, along with a fully armoured military tank and army vehicles, which are sure to attract plenty of interest.
Music and entertainment will be provided by well-known singer Seamus Moore – ‘The JCB Man’. For anyone interested, more info on the day can be obtained from the club’s Facebook page.
Rod Iron Vintage Show
Meanwhile, across the county border in Co. Kilkenny, the Rod Iron Vintage Show, Mullinavat, is set to take place on Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm.
The show will be held at Lismatigue, on the Hugginstown road from Mullinavat. The vintage event will have a competition for vintage machinery on display, with special plaques awarded to the ‘best exhibit’ in the categories of stationary engines, tractors, cars and motorcycles. All exhibits will receive a plaque too.
One of the primary events will be the dog show, which will feature 14 classes in addition to a ‘best of the show’ award.
The vintage day will also feature bouncing castles, a juvenile hurling event, a ‘monster raffle’, facepainting, a brown bread baking contest and trade stalls, among other events. Further information can be found on the club’s Facebook page.
