There’s a mixed bag of weather in store this week, with widespread showers, sunshine and thunder at times, according to Met Eireann.

Sunshine and showers from the west will become widespread in the afternoon today, some are forecast to be heavy and possibly thundery.

There will be highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, with mostly light variable breezes, but fresher in the southwest later, Met Eireann has said.

It will be a mild night tonight with showers continuing, some of them heavy as lowest temperatures range between 10 to 12 degrees.

Tuesday

According to Met Eireann, tomorrow, Tuesday, will be mostly cloudy with widespread heavy showers and a risk of thunder, some of them merging to longer spells of rain, especially over the eastern half of the country.

There’ll be a risk of thunder with some spot flooding and it will be cooler with highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees and moderate northwest breezes.

On Tuesday night, showers are forecast to gradually clear southwards and it will become mainly dry with clear spells.

There’ll still be a few along east and north coasts overnight and lowest temperatures will range between 9 to 11 degrees.

Wednesday

Wednesday will start off mainly dry with sunny spells, however Met Eireann has forecast for showers to develop in the east during the morning.

These showers will become heavy and more widespread in the afternoon and evening and will be heaviest over the eastern half of the country.

Current indications suggest that southwest Munster should escape with just a few showers. On Wednesday, highest temperatures will range between 16 to 19 degrees with light to moderate mainly northerly breezes.

Thursday

Met Eireann has forecast for Thursday to bring a mix of sunshine and showers also, however, in general, they won’t be as widespread or as heavy.

It will be a cooler day with moderate northerly breezes and highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees, coolest in the north and warmest in the south.

Friday

Met Eireann has forecast for Friday to be a mainly dry day with good sunny spells.

However, there’ll be a few showers in eastern coastal counties during the afternoon with highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees with light to moderate northerly breezes.

Outlook for next weekend

Saturday will be mild and dry with good sunny spells, according to the latest weather charts, with highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees.

Sunday will be mainly dry also, however, Met Eireann has said that it looks like rain will develop in the west and northwest during the second half of the day.
