There is a mixed bag in store this weekend, but conditions are set to improve early next week, according to Met Eireann.

Today, July 14, is forecast to start off mostly dry with sunny spells – especially in the east and south. But it will be cloudier in the west and north-west, with the danger of scattered outbreaks of rain in north-west coastal areas around midday.

During the afternoon, the rain is likely to push further inland and turn persistent over Connacht and Ulster. Parts of the south and south-east are expected to stay mostly dry.

Top temperatures of 17º to 22º are forecast – highest in parts of the south and east.

It is set to be mostly cloudy tonight, with spells of rain across west Munster, Connacht and Ulster. There is a risk of mist and fog forming, especially on hills and along the coast.

Conditions are expected to be very mild and humid overnight, with temperatures ranging from 13º to 16º – in moderate or fresh southwesterly winds.

There will be limited opportunities for spraying due to breezy conditions over the next few days, according to Met Eireann. Drying conditions will be mostly moderate over the weekend, it added.

At the moment, all soils are currently trafficable, but dry conditions over the southern half of the country may start to restrict growth, as soil moisture deficits reach 40mm to 50mm early next week, Met Eireann explained.

Tomorrow

It is forecast to be mild and humid tomorrow, Saturday. A good deal of cloud is likely in northern and western areas, with intermittent rain and drizzle – persistent at times along coastal fringes.

There is expected to be good dry periods elsewhere with some sunny spells; there is a risk of mist and fog affecting some coastal and hilly areas.

Highest temperatures of 18º to 24º are possible, warmest across east Munster and Leinster. Winds will be moderate to fresh and southwesterly in direction.

Sunday

Any lingering overnight rain or drizzle in the south-east is set to clear quickly on Sunday, leaving a bright, fresh day with a mixture of cloud and sunny spells.

It is forecast to be predominantly dry, but a few light showers may develop during the afternoon.

Top temperatures on Sunday of 16º to 20º; warmest in the south and east. Winds will be light to moderate and mainly westerly in direction.

Outlook

High pressure building over Ireland on Monday is expected to leave a largely dry day with a mix of cloud and bright or sunny spells.

Some mist or fog is possible along coastal margins in light, variable breezes; highest temperatures of 17º to 20º.

Early indications for Tuesday and Wednesday suggest that conditions will remain predominantly dry, with warm sunny spells likely to develop. Typical daytime temperatures will range from 20º to 24º, according to Met Eireann.
