The unsettled weather will continue for this week and into next weekend. It will be a cool week, especially from midweek onwards, Met Eireann has forecast.

It will be a cloudy day today, Monday, with showery outbreaks of rain in the northeast, east and southeast.

Scattered showers are forecast elsewhere, a few of them heavy in places, but a few areas will stay largely dry.

Maximum temperatures today, Monday, will range between 10 to 14 degrees, in a light variable breeze.

It is promised to become dry in most areas tonight, with clear intervals, however, Met Eireann has forecast for a few scattered showers to occur along western and northern coasts.

There is the possibility of a few mist or fog patches tonight and it will be cold, with some grass frost possible.

Temperatures tonight will range between 1 and 4 degrees, in a light west to northwest breeze.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, is forecast to be a dry and bright day, with sunny spells however, a few scattered showers will occur.

Highest temperatures will be 12 degrees in parts tomorrow.

Patchy rain and drizzle will be confined to Atlantic coasts as the day goes on as cloud increases from the Atlantic.

Tomorrow night the rain and drizzle will clear from the west, but Met Eireann has promised scattered showers to follow.

Southerly winds are forecast to veer westerly, increasing moderate to fresh, strong near coasts.

The unsettled weather will make a return on Wednesday; it will be a cool day and very windy with bright or sunny spells.

Both drying and spraying conditions will be poor this week, according to Met Eireann.

There will be occasional showers of rain and hail also on Wednesday, with many of the showers heavy, bringing with them a risk of thunder.

Met Eireann has forecast that a few wintry showers may occur over high ground on Wednesday. Maximum temperatures will range between 8 and 10 Celsius, but values will drop sharply at times in any heavy showers.

Winds will be fresh to strong and gusty westerly. It will be a cold and windy night, with some further showers, some wintry over high ground, according to Met Eireann.

Current indications suggest that Thursday will be another cool and windy day, with bright or sunny spells and scattered showers of rain and hail.

Some of these showers will be heavy and possibly prolonged in places, with a continuing risk of thunder.

Due to the above normal rainfall that is forecast, field conditions will not improve and may get worse in some places.

On Thursday night, winds are promised to ease and it will be cold and mostly dry, with frost in places. Minimum temperatures will range between minus 1 and 3 degrees, again with a risk of grass frost.

Met Eireann has forecast the cool and unsettled weather to continue for Friday and the weekend. Rain is promised to move gradually in from the Atlantic during Friday and Friday night, turning heavy in places.

The weekend will have further showers, or spells of rain at times, but dry intervals are also forecast.
