The mart manager said that customers from Northern Ireland are active in the sale but not to a huge extent.

He estimated approximately 50 heifers and bullocks combined went north from the sales on Thursday and Friday, October 15 and 16.

He said that Northern Ireland customers are currently buying primarily the 600-700kg heifers and 700kg bullocks.

He said: "The trade overall was very similar to last week as it was noticeable that underfed cattle are slipping in condition."

There were over 1,000 head of cattle in the weanling sale at Ennis Mart on Tuesday (October 20) with three rings in action.
