The American company, Wendy’s, which today (Wednesday, November 13) confirmed plans to open 10 restaurants across the country, has said all of its “fresh beef will be 100% Irish sourced and certified”.
The US company is best known for its “made-to-order square hamburgers”, chicken and salads, its menu also features “signature items” such as chili, baked potatoes and desserts.
According to Wendy’s it anticipates “sourcing ingredients locally wherever possible as part of its Irish rollout”.
Corrib Oil, a service station and energy distribution group, has signed an agreement to become Wendy’s franchise partner in Ireland and intends to open the first restaurants next year, although the locations have yet to be confirmed.
The Irish company currently has 38 convenience stores, with forecourts, in 17 counties and also has existing partnerhips with Texaco, Spar, Circle K, Insomnia, Apache Pizza, Subway and Zambrero.
Wendy’s
The American restaurant chain, which is headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, opened its first restaurant in 1969.
It currently has more than 7,200, restaurants, with more than 1,200 of these outside of the US.
Its “global growth plan” now includes Ireland, Romania, Northern Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Spain, Portugal, and France.
According to E.J. Wunsch, president, international, of The Wendy’s Company, Corrib and Ireland are a “perfect fit for the brand”.

Wunsch said he believes that “Corrib Oil is the right partner” to drive the US company’s expansion in Ireland.
Corrib Oil
Corrib Oil currently employs 1,150 people and intends to grow this to 1,450 as part of the first phase of its Wendy’s partnership.
Eugene Dalton, chief executive, corrib Oil said the Wendy’s partnership “represents a significant milestone in the company’s growth strategy”.
“The opportunity to bring such a globally recognised brand as Wendy’s to Ireland offers a new food experience for Irish customers, ” he added.
