It will be generally cloudy and misty this weekend, with the forecast showing signs of gradually becoming more unsettled with indications of colder weather for early 2025.
Today (Friday, December 27) will be generally cloudy and misty with some fog in places and patchy drizzle expected across southern and western fringes.
It will be mainly dry elsewhere, with highest temperatures of 9° to 12°, and light southerly breezes.
Met Éireann has said it will be mostly cloudy tonight with mist and fog in places. It will be dry for most with just some patchy drizzle though more general rain will move into northwestern areas later.
Lowest temperatures of 6° to 9° are expected generally in light southerly breezes, dipping down a little lower locally where any clear spells are more persistent.
On Saturday morning, some outbreaks of rain will affect northern and western areas. The rain will become patchier as it very gradually sinking southeastwards during the day with minimal amounts over Munster and Leinster with some areas staying dry, albeit cloudy.
Highest temperatures will range from 8° to 11°, and moderate southwest winds will veer northwesterly later, as clearer but colder weather follows.
Sunday will be dry and rather breezy nationally with some sunny spells. However, some scattered showers will occur too, mainly affecting Ulster and Connacht.
It will be breezy on Sunday night with well scattered showers across Atlantic counties. Lowest temperatures will range from 5° to 9° in fresh to strong southwest winds.
In the run up to the new year, on Monday, it will stay breezy with outbreaks of rain across Ulster and Connacht, gradually turning heavier and unsettled through the day.

There is some uncertainty for New Years Eve (Tuesday, December 31), but at present it looks windy enough with fresh to strong and gusty southwesterlies.
