The period of warm and dry weather this week will give way to returning rain and drizzle over the weekend and into next week, although there will be some dry spells in places as well, according to Met Éireann.

Any areas of mist and fog will clear through this morning (Friday, September 20). It will be another dry day with long spells of sunshine, though it will be cloudier at times near the east coast.

The weather will continue cloudy with further scattered showers extending to most areas on Saturday night. It will stay dry in the west and north with clear spells. Lowest temperatures will be 8° to 13° in a light to moderate north to northeast wind.

Showers in Leinster and Connacht will become more isolated on Sunday morning (September 22). It will be cloudy across the southern half of the country, with rain moving in from the east later, turning heavy and possibly thundery at times.

It will stay dry with sunny spells further to the north. Highest temperatures are expected to be 15° to 19° with a light to moderate north to northeast wind.

Rain will continue in the south on Sunday night, slowly edging southwards, but it will be dry across the rest of the country. Lowest temperatures should be 7° to 12° in a light northerly wind. Some patches of mist and fog developing.

Rain will quickly clear from the far south on Monday morning (September 23) and it will be a mostly dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells.

Cloudier weather and some light drizzle will move into northwestern areas through the day. Highest temperatures will be 14° to 18° with a light northerly breeze.
