Heavy showers are on the way this weekend, bringing flooding to parts, however dry weather is forcecast from mid-week next week, according to Met Eireann.

Today, Friday, is promised to be a wet and windy day nationwide.

There will be heavy rain for much of the morning and afternoon as southerly winds ease later in the day.

Highest temperatures will range between 9 and 10 degrees today.

Tonight, Met Eireann has promised for it to become largely dry for a time, although rain may never full clear eastern coasts and will soon return to southern coasts too.

Lowest temperatures tonight will occur in areas where longer clear spells develop which will be mainly across the northwest of the country.

Temperatures in the northwest are forecast to be down to between 1 and 3 degrees, while further to the southeast temperatures will range between 3 and 6 degrees.

Further heavy rain is promised on Saturday, with the rain spreading northwards in the morning and continuing through the afternoon and evening.

With this heavy rain, drying conditions will deteriorate however they look set to improve again by mid-week next week.

Spraying conditions will also worsen over the weekend but will show an improvement early next week.

There will be further outbreaks of rain overnight on Saturday and Met Eireann has suggested that there could be some flooding problems.

Meanwhile, temperatures in the afternoon will range between 8 or 9 degrees and winds light and variable in direction.

On Sunday, many places will be dry early in the morning but Met Eireann has promised further outbreaks of rain during the afternoon and evening while temperatures remain largely unchanged.

Next week will start off with a bright day on Monday with good sunshine, however heavy showers are forecast to develop countrywide in the afternoon.

While soils will be waterlogged following rain on Friday and Saturday, most will improve again as the week goes on.

Current indications suggest that the unsettled weather will continue through the early days of next week, however, Tuesday looks set to be a dry day.
