There were just under 1,000 head of bullocks on offer at Carnaross Mart, Co. Meath on Monday, August 26, with numbers of cattle on offer increasing over the past few weeks and clearance rates remaining very high.
Speaking to Agriland after the sale, Carnaross Mart manager Padraig McElroy, said demand from factory buyers, exporters and farmer customers remains strong across the board.
Over 170 bullocks in the Monday sale were purchased by customers from Northern Ireland. The top price in the sale was €3,280 for a 945kg Limousin bullock owned by Oliver and Jason Stanley from Kells, Co. Meath.
The bullock won a number of rosettes at shows this season winning first in Tullamore and third in the Liffey Meats All Ireland Beef Bullock Championship at Virginia Show.
The top-priced bullock in the Monday sale was purchased by a customer from Northern Ireland.
McElroy said: “Other prices from the Monday sale included €2,480 or €3.42/kg for a 725kg Limousin bullock, while another 530kg continental bullock made €1,810 with a 630kg bullock making €2,120 and a 530kg bullock making €1,810.
“Another 480kg bullock made €1,620, there was bullocks that made as far as €3.50/kg.”
He also noted that Friesian bullocks made over €2.60/kg in cases with a 510kg Friesian bullock making €1,340 or €2.63/kg.
The weekly weanling sale Tuesday evening August 20, with 370 bulls and 280 heifers on offer and and “a good clearance across the board with over 60 weanling bulls in the sale going for export”.
McElroy said: “There was as far as €4/kg achieved for bulls at the weanling sale with a 495kg Belgian Blue bull making €1,990 or €4.02/kg.”
