The ’32 County Bale Challenge’ finished up on Saturday, June 3, with great success – having accomplished its objective of making and wrapping 100 bales of silage in every one of the 32 counties of Ireland.
The last bale was wrapped in Co. Donegal, bringing the challenge to an end late on Saturday evening following six days of non-stop baling around the country.
AgriLand shot a video, detailing some of the action that took place in Co. Westmeath, where the four tractors and combination baler-wrappers used for the challenge were put through their paces by the crew.
The challenge was undertaken by the Active Agri Association, a small group of farmers from counties Cavan and Monaghan who raise funds for charities. AgriLand kept readers up to date, during the week.
Also Read: Pics: ’32 County Bale Challenge’ in full swingThe challenge was supported by the contractors’ association – Farm Contractors Ireland (FCI) – and agricultural entertainment company, Grassmen.
The intention was to charge €10 per bale – all going to charity – meaning €1,000 was raised in each county. Donation buckets were also placed in the fields where the challenge took place; donations were also accepted online through a link on the challenge Facebook page. Total funds raised have not yet been fully counted, but people can still make donations online through the link.
In a statement released on their page, the organisers said: “We would like to take the opportunity to say a massive thank you to each and everyone who helped out, supported and donated along the route. Without the support of you guys, we wouldn’t have been able to do it.
We would also like to thank every single farmer and contractor who let us in onto their land to make the bales; this was the most basic yet most essential part.
