Valtra has looked to test both the speed and precision of its new T Series of tractors via two extreme tests in Austria and Germany.

Partnered with Nokian Tyres and Vaderstad, Valtra has attempted to extract the absolute maximum performance out of its latest tractor in terms of both speed and precision.

The new tractor comes with the AGCO Power six-cylinder 7.5L Core75 engine, an award winning engine that was recently seen on the new Massey Ferguson 7S Mark 2.

According to Valtra both "extreme challenges" shared the same principle - "use genuine production tractor designed to carry out real agricultural work".

Racing

The first challenge was in collaboration with Nokian Tyres and took place at Austria's Red Bull Ring.

During the filmed event, the tractor achieved a Red Bull Racing verified speed of 87km/h.

At the same time, the T Series became the fastest tractor around the Red Bull Ring with a lap time of 3:36:4 minutes.

However, this impressive feat is not the first time that Valtra has tested its machines' abilities for speed.

In 2015, four-time World Rally Championship winner Juha Kankkunen drove a Valtra T234 tractor fitted with Nokian Hakkapeliitta Tri winter tyres for tractors.

The rally icon drove the tractor on a closed highway in his native country, Finland, and achieved a speed of 130.165km/h.

Planting

The second challenge moved the Valtra tractor from the race circuit to a farm in western Germany.

The second test focused on high-speed precision corn planting with a Vaderstad Tempo planter under realistic field conditions using production machinery.

The tractor and planter achieved a highest measured planting speed of 40.125km/h while maintaining planting accuracy in excess of 95%.

This T Series came with Nokian Soil King tyres, a 1.8t front weight and two 500kg rear wheel ballast weights.

Speed was measured using light-barrier timing equipment installed on several planting passes.

The Valtra T Series executed the high precision planting with the PTx guidance system.

Valtra decided to do the test to show the importance of high operating speeds combined with agronomic precision in modern agricultural technology.

Valtra Europe and Middle East vice president for sales and marketing, Matti Tiitinen, said: "The most important takeaway from these challenges is what they demonstrate for farmers.

"Farmers need machines that adapt quickly, respond predictably and help them make the most of every working hour.

"These demonstrations show how the technologies behind the T Series work together with advanced implements to deliver exactly that.

"Valtra is a brand seeking always to push the boundaries with our farmer-first mindset and doing so with our excellent partners," he said.
