Two decades of successful pedigree sales is a remarkable feat for any breeder. Castleview and Roundhill Limousins have been hosting their Genetic Advantage Sales for 20 years, with the 10th Genetic Advantage Sale taking place on September 14 in Central Auctions Roscrea.

50 high quality pedigree Limousin heifers will be offered. Both herds are long-standing breeders with a combined nearly 60 years experience breeding Limousins.

Not only is time on their side, but they stand apart with their large pedigree herds, Castleview Limousins with 50 breeding females and Roundhill with over 100.

Sean O’ Sullivan’s Castleview herd is well-known in breeding circles as breeding some of the most widely used Limousin AI sires including: Castleview Gazelle, Castleview Gringo, Castleview Reece and Castleview Casino.

The G7 cow family has helped to drive the consistency in the Castleview herd, with Castleview Gazelle (ZAG), Gringo (GWO) Casino (CWI) all finding their roots in the G7 family tree.

Between these three bulls out of the G7 family, there are over 174,000 calves sired by them in the country.

Castleview Gazelle (ZAG), standing in NCBC a son of G7, has been one of the most used sires in Irish AI on both dairy and suckler herds since 2016. He has over 131,000 births registered with ICBF.

The Roundhill herd, owned by Tim and Doreen Corridan will be bringing a selection of polled and horned heifers to the sale with their 25 lots.

The Genetic Advantage Sales live up to their name, having consistently sold the genetics of Champions Tullamore Champions 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2022 and well as Balmoral 2022.

Castleview Reece (LM8619) is the latest addition to the NCBC stud from the Castleview herd. Reece has an impressive pedigree – Cameos x Ronick Hawk x Fieldsons Alfy from the renowned Roundhill Leny family.

He is a correct, high performance, classy bull. Based on his performance and pedigree he is standing up to expectations at NCBC. Included in the September offering is his full sister, Lot 44 Castleview Unita ET.

Castleview Reece

Lot 22, Castleview Tori, is an exceptional example of a G7 bred female. Sired by Bel-Orient, she has a brilliant top line and a good wide pelvis. Her sire stack includes Dieurnordic, Willodge Cerberus and Otan.

Lot 37, Castleview Tucker is a strong Bel Orient daughter coming from the Snowdrop family, with Fieldsons Alfy, Cloughhead Jordan and Haricot in the pedigree.

Another Bel Orient daughter coming earlier in the sale is Lot 18 Castleview Castleview Tara. A lovely, sweet heifer from the Roundhill Leny family.

She has On Dit, Fieldson Alfy and Imperial in her pedigree. The Leny family will be making a strong appearance at this sale, with both Castleview and Roundhill having a strong line of Leny’s attending.

The Roundhill herd will make a splash this year with one of the biggest selections of polled heifers available in Europe.

Ever present at the Tullamore Show winners circle, are the Roundhill Unanime family.

In the 2022 Genetic Advantage Sale, Corridan family-favourite Roundhill I Unanime 1440 was sold for €12,000, only beaten on the day by her Ampertaine Foreman daughter for €13,000.

Roundhill I Unanime is the dam of Roundhill P Unanime 1945, who sold for €9,500 in 2020. She matured into a powerful show cow, collecting numerous championships in her career to date.

Her bull calf Ballybrown Toby, an Ampertaine Foreman son, matched his mothers success and was Senior Male Champion in Tullamore 2023.

In the upcoming sale, Lot 3, Roundhill S Unanime 2145 P is a heterozygous polled daughter from Roundhill I Unanime 1440.

This first calver will be one of the finest polled animals to come on the market from an award-winning, proven dam line. She is a first calver and she is scanned back in-calf to Tigris PP, a bull that is no longer available.

Lot 7 from the Roundhill herd will see the first of the homozygous polled heifers enter the ring. Roundhill T Ondine 2274 PP is a great example of a classy Limousin heifer.

Sired by O’Mallet PP , she is an easy-calving outcross with extreme width. Her sire stack is Karlos PP, Gino and Vermeil.

Also from the Ondine family, is Ballybrown Sophie (Roundhill I Ondine 1496 x Plumtree Fantastic), another successful show heifer who’s dam was purchased at the 5th Genetic Advantage Sale.

Also from the Leny family is Lot 47, Roundhill U Leny 2300 PP, from the Roundhill Stock bull JK Miro PP.

This is a five-star heifer all-round and is homozygous polled. The Roundhill Leny family is a hardworking line of dams known for their fertility and milk.

JK Miro PP, imported from the renowned Kirsch herd in Luxembourg. He is easy calving and a phenomenal consistent breeder.

His progeny has it all – excellent muscle development, style, power, correctness, width and super temperament.

His daughters are now in their second lactation in the herd. They are great breeders – milky and feminine with lovely temperament. 

JK Miro PP is five stars on Replacement Index.  Sire of Lots 15, 24, 34,35, 43,47, 50 & 51. JK Miro is homozygous polled and carries two copies of F94L.

Another five-star homozygous polled heifer is Lot 24 Roundhill U Giroflee 2311 PP. True to the Giroflee family, she demonstrates width and shape.

Sired by the JK Miro PP and from the Giroflee family. She is carrying two copies of the F94L gene, also known as the “profit gene”, giving super carcass weight and quality without compromising on calving difficulty or fertility.

Bobby O’Connell of the Ballybrown herd will be bringing Lot 54, Ballybrown Trixiebell, to Central Auctions Roscrea.

This is a very well-muscled, long wide heifer with tremendous style. She is sired by Ampertaine Magnum, from an Elite Icecream dam going back to Elite Forever Brill, Roundhill P Unanime 1945.

Ballybrown Unanime

To mark 20 years of hugely successful Genetic Advantage Sales, the Castleview and Roundhill herds will be auctioning three lots in aid of Volunteers in Irish Veterinary Assisantance, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Embryos to be auctioned include Lot 27, Roundhill I Unanime 1440 x Ampertaine Foreman, a winning combination with progeny selling to €13,000 in the 2022 sale.

Lot 28 is Roundhill Vache x Mas Du Clo another winning combination with progeny sold to €19,500 in 2016 sale. Lot 29 is 2 straws of Ronick Hawk, two straws of Mas Du Clo and one straw of talent, much sought after Limousin sires who are no longer available.

Roundhill EGiroflee 1164 was the Junior Champion in Tullamore in 2011 and National Senior Cow 2015. Roundhill EGiroflee 1164 was sold for €19,000 in 2016 and her daughter Roundhill JGiroflee 1532 sold for €16,000.

Same mating as Lot 27, Grand dam of Lot 31 and maternal sister to dam of Lot 51.
