Tributes have been paid following the death of a well-known former businessman and director of Brady Bros. Marts and Hotel Group, Eugene Brady.

A death notice on RIP.ie outlined that Eugene Brady of Cootehill Road, Cavan, passed away on Friday, February 23, “peacefully in the loving care of his family and the staff at College View Nursing Home, Co. Cavan”.

The Brady Bros. Marts and Hotel Group was a prominent business force throughout the late 1960s, and into the 1970s and 1980s.

It’s business portfolio included Cootehill Mart, Cavan Mart, Mohill Mart, Dowra Mart and Carnaross Mart.

It also had a collection of collection of hotels, which included the White Horse Hotel in Cootehill, Co. Cavan, the Hillgrove Hotel in Co. Monaghan, and the Kilmore Hotel in Co. Cavan.

The late Eugene Brady was described on on RIP.ie as a “beloved husband and best friend of Denise”, and was pre-deceased by his brother Tommy and sisters Mary and Nancy.

It added: “Eugene will be very sadly missed by his devoted and loving wife Denise, brothers Patrick Joseph and Jimmy, sisters in law Jeannette Gibbs and Ann Brady, nieces Sinéad and Elm, Stuart (nephew) all his nephews and nieces, his relatives and many, many friends.”

Tributes to the late Eugene Brady on RIP.ie described him as “a true gentleman” with sympathisers adding they had “many happy memories of Eugene from the past in the marts and hotel businesses”.

Others described him as “a member of of one of the greatest entrepreneurial families ever in Cavan”, adding that “together with his father and brothers, they contributed to the welfare of the farming community by establishing marts, as well as renowned hotels which contributed to the social and business wellbeing of our towns”.
