Tributes have been paid following the death of independent non-executive director of FBD Holdings and chair of FBD Insurance, David O’Connor.
In a statement issued today (Monday, April 15) by FBD Holdings the company said that the Dublin native passed away on Friday.
He served as a member of the board of both FBD Holdings and FBD Insurance since July 2016 and was appointed as chair of FBD Insurance in May 2021.
A fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, David began his career in New Ireland Assurance before joining Allianz Ireland in 1988 to set up its non-life actuarial function.
He was a member of Allianz executive management board and held a number of senior management positions there prior to joining Willis Towers Watson in 2003 to set up its property and casualty consultancy unit in Dublin, where he worked until June 2016.

Liam Herlihy, chair of FBD Holdings, paid tribute to David and offered sympathies to his family on behalf of the company.
“It is with deep sorrow that we learned of the passing of our fellow board member David O’Connor.
“David was a highly respected and valued member of our board and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with him over the last eight years.
“David played a key role as chair of FBD Insurance plc, he was a highly experienced actuary and brought significant expertise to the board.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with David’s family and loved ones during this terribly difficult and sad time,” he said.
Many tributes have also been paid to David on RIP.ie describing him as “a man of huge integrity”, “a true professional” and “a brilliant raconteur”.
David is survived by his wife, Joanne Burke, his children, Rory, Ian and Sally, mother Brede and sisters Claire and Joan, daughter-in-law Muireann and granddaughter Isobel. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Ronan.
He will be reposing at Carnegies Funeral Home, Monkstown, Dublin on this evening until 7:00p.m.
Removal will take place on Tuesday to St. John the Baptist’s Church, Blackrock, arriving for 10:00a.m Mass, followed by a private cremation service at Mount Jerome Crematorium.
