An Garda Síochána has urged motorists to take extra care as the winter sets in after a trailer transporting cattle overturned in Co. Cork this week.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (November 11) on the M8 motorway in the ‘Rebel County’.
Taking to social media, Gardaí based in the southern region said:
“On [Wednesday], Fermoy and Glanmire Gardaí responded to a single vehicle collision on the M8. Heavy rain, wind and surface water made driving conditions difficult.
“A 4X4 got into difficulty and their trailer with cattle onboard ended up pointing the wrong direction.
Thankfully nobody was injured and the cattle on board were shaken but not stirred.
Continuing, the Garda statement said: “As winter sets in, remember to adjust your speed according to conditions – you never know what’s going to happen.”
Winter Ready campaign
Earlier this week, the Cork and Kerry Inter-Agency Emergency Management Region South’s coordinated campaign, ‘Be Winter Ready’, is raising public awareness about the challenges winter can present.
An Garda Síochána, the Health Service Executive (HSE), Cork County Council, Cork City Council and Kerry County Council have been working together since the start of the Covid-19 crisis to co-ordinate the community response and continue to assist communities in staying safe and in being ‘Winter Ready’.
