A man has been arrested in the village of Rathmore, Co. Kerry earlier today for reckless driving on a tractor, according to RTE News.

The man, driving a Ford tractor, failed to stop for a Garda car on the road, leading to further Gardai being called. The tractor then crashed into a Garda squad car before reversing out and attempting to leave the scene.

The man was apprehended on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage and endangerment according to RTE.

The man, who is reportedly in his 60s, received medical attention and was then taken to Mallow Garda Station, Co. Cork for questioning. It is believed that no one was injured.

This incident comes a few days after a serious episode of rural crime when a man sustained injuries after being shot in a field in Co. Offaly on Wednesday night, August 30.

Members of An Garda Siochana in Tullamore are investigating the shooting incident which occurred on the outskirts of the town.

Shortly before 10:00pm a 21-year-old man received gunshot wounds to his legs during an incident in a field just off the Clara Road.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Tullamore Hospital for treatment. His injures are not believed to be life threatening.

It’s understood a shot was fired from some distance away. A second man who is in his 20s was present at the time, but escaped without injury.

An incident room has been established at Tullamore Garda Station, according to the Gardai and no arrests have been made as of yet.
