The deadline for nominations for the position of IFA Treasurer was 11am this morning and the IFA has confirmed that two nominations were received.
Jer Bergin from Co. Laois and Padraic Joyce from Co. Mayo have both been nominated to go forward for the position.
The election for the position of Treasurer will be held at the IFA AGM next week, on Wednesday 27, 2016.
Jer Bergin is the current IFA National Chairman and Returning Officer for the IFA while Padraic Joyce is a former Mayo County Chairman.
Interestingly, Padraic Joyce is also been nominated by his county to run for the position of Connacht Chairman. Yesterday, new IFA President Joe Healy secured the backing of Mayo votes, getting 1,089 of the 1,175 votes cast in this week’s election.
The Mayo farmer had no comment to make on whether or not he would now be pulling out of the race to become the Connacht Chairman.
Over two months on from the deadline for nominations for Connacht IFA Chairman, the region remains in deadlock with no candidate fitting the criteria for the job.
At the most recent IFA Executive Council on March 22, representatives from the region were told to sort out their own house for the regional position.
The current state of play is that no candidate has met the criteria for the top job in Connacht with five candidates nominated, meaning no county could back another – leaving the region in deadlock.
