Almost €8 million has been reallocated to the Department of Agriculture (DAFM) to run the local authority veterinary services this year.
The Department of Agriculture (DAFM) said the transfer of Local Authority Veterinary Services to the department is "on track" for January 1.
Small abattoirs around the country are "under serious pressure" as certain licences are not being granted, Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice said.
Talks on the possible transfer of the local authority veterinary service to the Department of Agriculture may be finalised by the end of 2024
