Grass
Irish drystock farmers are lagging behind their dairy counterparts when it comes to growing and utilising grass.
90% of the soils analysed through Teagasc's soil fertility department in 2015 had sub-optimal levels of soil pH, phosphorus and potassium.
Each extra tonne of grass utilised/ha (eaten/ha) on Irish farms is worth €185/ha in extra profit, according to Teagasc's John Maher.
