The number of sheep slaughterings in Ireland in 2024 stood over 2.8 million head, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Cattle slaughterings increased by 11.5% in September when compared with the same month in 2023, according to the CSO.
The number of cattle slaughtered in January increased by 7.9% when compared with the same month in 2023, the CSO said.

Between January and September 2023, cattle slaughterings decreased by 3.6% when compared with the same period in 2022, according to the latest CSO figures.
The number of cattle slaughtered in the first five months of this year is down by 3.9% compared to the same period in 2022, the CSO said.
Between January and February 2023 cattle slaughterings increased by 2.1% when compared with the same period in 2022, according to the CSO.
