A Status Yellow warning for low temperatures and ice has been issued by Met Éireann for much of the country, coming into effect from 8:00p.m today (Tuesday, December 10).
All of Munster and Connacht will be impacted by the warning, along with counties: Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath.
The Status Yellow warning will remain in place until 11:00a.m tomorrow (Wednesday, December 11).
The national forecaster has warned of a very cold night with minimum temperatures of -3°C or lower. A sharp to severe frost is expected, forming icy stretches.
For the rest of the country, Wednesday will be dry but generally quite dull with overnight mist and fog stubborn to clear some areas.
It will be cold with highest temperatures 1° to 6°, coldest across the western half of the country, in a light north-east breeze. Another calm, cold and frosty night is expected to follow with widespread fog and lowest temperatures of -3° to 0°.
On Thursday, once again frost and fog will linger in some areas throughout. It will remain dry and calm but generally cloudy. It will be cold with highest temperatures of 2° to 7°, again coldest across Atlantic counties.
The night will be calm but misty or foggy in places, along with frost where skies clear. There will be some showers too. Lowest temperatures will range from -1° to 3°.
The low temperatures and ice follow a weekend of weather warnings during Storm Darragh, when many counties faced a Status Red wind warning.
As the country recovers, many areas remain without power. At its peak, roughly 375,000 customers were affected by power outages, and ESB Networks reported yesterday evening that the figure was brought down to around 20,000.
