A Status Yellow snow/ice warning has been issued by Met Éireann for counties: Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim and Louth.
The warning will come into effect from 10:00p.m tonight (Saturday, December 21), remaining in place until 9:00a.m tomorrow (Sunday, December 22).
The national forecaster said it is possible that there will be wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow tonight and for a time Sunday morning.
Possible impacts of the warning includes: Poor visibility; Temporary icy patches; and difficult travelling conditions.
This comes as there also is a Status Yellow wind warning in place for many counties, including: Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Kerry, Limerick.
The warning came into effect at 3:00a.m this morning for counties: Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo. The warning will stay in place until 2:00p.m on Sunday.
Counties Clare, Kerry, and Limerick will enter the Status Yellow warning from tomorrow afternoon at 3:00p.m, with the warning remaining in place until 3:00p.m tomorrow as well.
The national forecaster has warned of sustained strong and gusty westerly winds veering northwesterly coupled with large coastal waves. Winds will peak on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
A Status Yellow wind warning has also been put in place by the Met Office in the UK, with strong winds expected all through today for counties: Antrim, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.
The warning will remain in place until midnight, with a strong chance of transport disruption.
There is also a Status Yellow gale warning in place from Mizen Head to Erris Head to Fair Head, where winds are expected to reach gale force 8 on Irish coastal waters. This warning will stay in place until 5:00p.m.
Fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds are expected through today, and will reach gale force along Atlantic coasts. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach 6° to 10°.
