Clonenagh National School, Mountrath, Co. Laois, is all set for the annual tractor fun on Saturday, December 28 at 11:30a.m.

The tractor run will take place along with a family fun run/walk and auction in Coolrain village.

This fundraising event has proven to be a great day out for all the family and promises the usual excitement with tractors, the fun run/walk, all-day long free refreshments, music and an auction, the organisers said.

The day will start with a 6km family fun run/walk around the scenic countryside near Coolrain village at the foot of the Slieve Bloom mountains.

“This is an ideal way to work off the excesses of Christmas. All ages are welcome to join the run/walk.

“Registration for the fun run/walk will take place at 11:00a.m at Hogan’s pub, Coolrain. The fee is €10.00 for adults, €5.00 for second level students and free for primary school pupils,” said the organisers.

“Next up will be the annual Clonenagh tractor run, which is a sight to behold as the tractors and vintage cars work their way through the village and along the route. Registration for the tractor run takes place at 1:30p.m and the tractors and cars will set off at 2:30p.m.

“The delicious stew that is served free of charge at Hogan’s Pub, Coolrain, after the tractor run traditionally goes down very well with the drivers and successfully warms them up after the stint outdoors. All drivers will also receive a memento of the day,” they said.

“The event will finish with the auction in Hogan’s pub at 8:30p.m, with many impressive lots being auctioned on the night. Our auctioneer, Joe Shirley, is often the highlight of the event and ensures that all those who come to support the event enjoy the night,” the organisers added.

“All money raised on the day goes towards Clonenagh National School to support the children’s education and development.

“The money that was raised at past tractor run events has supported the purchase of books, educational toys, reading programmes, a computer course with Riomhtech, maths and science equipment, an interactive whiteboard and bus transport for sports and educational events,” the committee members said.

Fundraising from the upcoming event will go towards additional online learning programmes, English reading programmes, bus transport, development of the school’s outdoor space and subsidising the cost of swimming for families and workshops.

“The annual fundraiser is a very enjoyable day for all ages so come along and join us for some exercise, tractors and lots of fun,” the organisers said.
