Scattered showers are set to remain in place this week, following a weekend of heavy rain, according to Met Eireann.

This morning, Monday, is expected to be mostly cloudy with patches of mist, drizzle and fog; some outbreaks of rain may affect western areas.

Limited brighter intervals are forecast for a time in the east and southeast. But rain is likely in the west and it will push eastwards later this morning, becoming light and patchy in the process.

Today is set to be warm and humid with highs of 17º to 21º. There is a danger of a spell of heavy rain developing in the southwest this evening.

Rain is likely to be heavy at times tonight and it is expected to spread from the southwest to all areas overnight. This rain will clear in the west towards morning, with temperatures falling to around 11º.

Over the coming days, opportunities for both drying and spraying will be limited. Slight improvements in conditions are possible tomorrow and Wednesday.

Soil moisture deficits are around 5mm to 10mm in east Leinster. But elsewhere well-drained soils are at 0mm, while moderate to poorly-drained soils are saturated, according to Met Eireann.

Tomorrow

A mainly dry start for many parts of the country is forecast tomorrow morning, Tuesday, as the last of the rain clears from the east coast. The rest of tomorrow is set to be mainly dry and sunny.

Temperatures will range from 16º to 18º in moderate to fresh westerly winds. Tomorrow night is expected to be mainly dry and clear, with temperatures falling to around 10º degrees. Winds are likely to be mainly moderate west to southwest in direction.

Outlook

Meanwhile, Wednesday is forecast to be a mostly dry day. But there will be a risk of some patchy rain in the west towards evening.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 16º to 18º in the afternoon, in moderate southwest to west winds. Values will drop back once again on Wednesday night to between 10º and 12º, Met Eireann added.

There is a danger of some showers on Thursday, with these being most frequent in the west and north of the country. A lot of the country will experience a dry day with sunny spells.

Very little change in either daytime or night-time temperatures is forecast, as occasionally fresh, westerly or southwesterly winds persist.

Conditions on Friday are set to remain relatively unchanged compared to previous days. Showers may be a little more widespread through the afternoon and there is a possibility that it will be slightly cooler on Friday night.
