Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for four counties with accumulations of up to 40mm and localised flooding expected in places.

Issued at 7:00pm yesterday evening (Monday, November 9), the alert will come into effect at 6:00pm this evening and will remain valid until 12:00pm tomorrow.

The warning will be in effect in counties Galway, Mayo, Cork and Kerry.

In these counties, rainfall accumulations of 25 to 40mm are expected, with these higher in mountainous regions. Localised flooding will occur also, Met Éireann adds.

Turning to the country in general, this morning will start off cloudy with lingering mist and drizzle, the national meteorological office says.

Brighter conditions in the southwest will extend to most areas by early afternoon. However, cloud will thicken from the west later in the afternoon as southerly winds freshen, with rain arriving in west Munster and Connacht towards evening.

Highest temperatures of 11° to 13° are forecast.

Rain will spread countrywide tonight, with some heavy falls, bringing a risk of localised spot flooding. Lowest temperatures of 9° to 11° are in store, with strong southerly winds developing.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, will be a wet and windy day with a continued risk of localised spot flooding.

Strong and gusty southerly winds will veer westerly as conditions improve from the west later in the day. Highest temperatures of 11° to 13° are predicted.
