A number of power tools that were stolen from Co. Mayo on August 1 were recovered earlier this month (September) quite a long way from where they came from.

Gardaí arrested two men in relation to the theft of the tools – as well as a motorcycle – at Tallaght, Co. Dublin. The items are believed to have been stolen from the Aghamore area near Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.

Following the theft in August, Gardaí in Claremorris launched an investigation into the matter and, as a result of enquiries and CCTV footage, two suspects were identified in Tallaght.

During a search under warrant in Tallaght, the tools and motorcycle from Co. Mayo, as well as other property, were recovered. Enquiries are ongoing as to where the other property came from.

The two arrested men were aged in their mid-20s and early 30s.

Both of them were subsequently charged in connection with the burglary at Aghamore, and court proceedings followed.

Taking to social media, Gardaí reminded the public to be vigilant on foot of the incident, urging anyone who notices suspicious activity to report it to their local Garda station.

Trailer trouble with bales

In other Gardaí-related news, a video which has emerged on social media of a dangerous incident involving tumbling bales of straw has prompted a warning from local Gardaí on the importance of securing loads when on the road.

The incident occurred on the border between counties Kilkenny and Tipperary on Saturday evening (September 19), and features dash-cam footage from a driver travelling behind a tractor towing a trailer of straw bales.

However, as members of An Garda Síochána based in Co. Kilkenny noted, the load was only secured with a single strap.
