A 33m roll of polytunnel plastic has been stolen from a field in Co. Kilkenny in a raid over the weekend, with an appeal made for any information which may aid in its return.

In an appeal on social media, the owner of the plastic Jamie Kavanagh, who is in the process of constructing a polytunnel as part of an organic enterprise, said:

“A 33m roll of polytunnel plastic was stolen from our field last night. Its our first year, and we are just starting out.

“This is a major setback for us, and it could spell the end of our project. If anybody hears anything, or if anyone tries to sell on any plastic to you, please let us know.

“This is the third time we’ve been targeted in a month. Any information or help is much appreciated.

“If anyone does have any information, please either contact us directly, or contact the Kilkenny Garda station,” the owner said.

A bright blue wheelbarrow, blue tarp and some tools were also taken in the raid.

Local Gardaí are investigating the incident, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed to Agriland, stating:

“Gardaí are investigating an incident of theft from a field which occurred on the Callan Rd, Co. Kilkenny, on April 4, 2021.

“A number of items were taken during the course of the incident.

“No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing,” the Garda spokesperson concluded.
