Parts of the country woke up to a dusting of snow this morning and there are some great farming pictures doing the rounds on social media.

Yesterday, Met Eireann issued a yellow snow-ice weather warning for Leinster and Ulster with accumulations possible of 1 to 3cm locally.

And, the cold weather is forecast to continue over the weekend and into next week.

Tomorrow Saturday is promised to be a cold, bright and dry day in many areas, with good sunshine and moderate northwest to north winds.

Sunday will be another cold day and there will be a frosty start in eastern areas.

Paul Hyland tweeted this photo of his cows in the snow this morning.

Lorna Sixsmith, calf rearer and writer, is wondering where spring is with all the snow.

Peter Farrell, a dairy farmer and 2016 Nuffield Scholar, has had to bring his ‘girls’ back into the shed because of the inclement weather.

Ear to the Ground’s Helen Carroll tweeted this great shot of the heavy snowfall in Kilkenny this morning.

Young Farmer of the Year 2007, Bryan Daniels is asking who ordered snow this morning!

Philip O Faolain sent us in these great photos of the snow where he lives in Ballinvreena, Co. Limerick.

Judging by these pictures, this area of south Limerick received a good fall of snow.

It’s also snowing over in the UK, with Welsh farmer Huw Llandre tweeting this photo of his sheep.

“Nice lambing weather #not,” he tweeted.
