The Lisduff Angus Herd will hold its third annual bull sale this Wednesday, April 20, at 12:30pm in Mid-Tipp Mart in Thurles.

Leo McEnroe, a third generation of Angus breeder based in Virginia, Co. Cavan, Lisduff, says the bulls on show at the sale have been out-wintered on kale and are extremely hardy.

He says the sale will be a high health status sale, with all bulls vaccinated for IBR, BVD and Lepto.

“Our preferred breeding frame is a medium framed animal with a mature cow weight of 720kgs, with thick deep bodies.”

We also like to maintain the Aberdeen Angus characteristics in our herd, small birth weights with good weight conversion and feed efficiency.

“Over the years in Ireland, our herd has competed and won at national level for Aberdeen Angus livestock.

“Our animals have been awarded accolades for their genetic ability, weight for age, confirmation and docility at the national performance station,” he said.

There will be a total of 37 bulls on offer including 33 black and six red Angus varying from 11 months to two years old.

The Lisduff herd is an accredited herd with the ICBF Gene Ireland Maternal Programme since the programme was established.

The bulls in the sale will have top maternal and terminal indexes and star ratings to suit all types of herds (dairy, suckler and pedigree herds).

“Lisduff Herd goes back to female bloodlines from my father Bartle McEnroe who began breeding Aberdeen Angus in 1948.

“At Lisduff we strive towards keeping the traditional traits to the fore in the Angus herd which has been working for our family for the last 70 years,” McEnroe said.
