Teagasc paid overtime to 138 staff in 2025, almost unchanged from the previous year, with the highest individual payment at the national body also lower than in 2024.

The highest aggregate amount paid to an individual was €25,454 last year.

This compares to the highest aggregate amount paid to an individual in 2024 at €29,158.

According to Teagasc's 2025 annual report and financial statements more than €1.1 million was paid out in overtime to staff in 2025.

Staff allowances were worth over €2.9 million in 2025.

Teagasc's staff training costs stood at €658,000 in 2025, down from €717,000 in 2024.

Teagasc's 2025 annual report and financial statements, released this week, show that total expenditure stood at €249 million, an increase of €3 million (1.2%) on 2024.

Teagasc recorded a total income of €248 million in 2025, which is up by 3.3% or €8 million compared to the previous year.

The report notes that during 2025, Teagasc "managed elevated cash flow risk arising from an unplanned slowdown in payment of funding for externally funded research projects by a main funder".

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) allocated State grant aid to Teagasc was €175.5 million in 2025.

This represents an increase of over €5 million on the 2024 allocation of €170.4 million.

Following general public sector pay increases the 2025 Teagasc pay bill stood at €115 million, €6 million more than in 2024.

National agri-body

The total number of staff employed (whole time equivalent) by the national agricultural body at year-end was 1,515, up from 1,489 in 2024.

133 Teagasc employees earned over €100,000 in 2025, annual salary and benefits combined.

Four staff members earned between €190,000 and €199,999, compared to one in 2024.

336 earned between €60,000 and €79,999 in 2025, while 224 earned between €80,000 and €99,999.

Teagasc said there were no termination benefits in 2025, compared to €15,700 in fees in 2024.

Retirement benefit costs were over €45 million in 2025.

Retirement benefit costs reflect retirement benefits earned by employees in the period and are shown net of staff pensioncontributions which are retained by the group, Teagasc said.
